Hans Erwin Steinbach , also HES (born February 15, 1896 in Hanau , † November 13, 1971 in Seeg ), was a German painter .

Vita

Hans Erwin Steinbach attended the Royal School of Applied Arts in Dresden from 1913 , came to the Eastern Front in 1915 as an infantryman in World War I and was only released from captivity in 1920. He then studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt and later at the Munich Art Academy with Peter (von) Halm . From 1923 he became a freelance artist in Giessen and made trips to Italy. In 1933 he married his wife Marie, b. Kübel, and moved to Ratholz , a part of the municipality of Immenstadt in the Allgäu. There he opened a pension exclusively for vegetarians at the Reuterhof . Every year he spent his holidays in East Frisia .

In 1958 he moved first to Lengenwang and later to Kleinwalsertal . His wife ran a guesthouse there too. In 1967 he finally moved to Ostallgäu , where he died in 1971.

style

Steinbach's style was moving from the initial landscape painter, on the portraitists (especially for livelihood) for, after the Second World War , abstract way.

As a poet Steinbach wrote many a poem.

there is no speculation in it,
but sea fires.

Publicly owned work

In addition to Hessian ministries and Bavarian authorities, his works are also located in the cities of Berlin , Gießen , Wetzlar , Kempten (Allgäu) and Immenstadt .
The artistic estate is looked after by his daughter Hinrika Lex.
