Hans Friedrich von Schöning (1780)

Hans Friedrich von Schöning (* 1717 in Lübenow ; † November 29, 1787 in Stettin ) was a Prussian chamber president. From 1763 until his death he was in charge of the Pomeranian War and Domain Chamber .

Life

He came from the noble Pomeranian family von Schöning . His father, Hans Ernst von Schöning (1684–1752) was the heir to Lübenow and Clemmen, as well as a war council and march commissioner. His mother Margarethe Tugendreich was born from Burgsdorff .

Schöning studied at the University of Halle from 1738 . He entered the Prussian civil service, initially as a trainee lawyer with the government in Stettin. In 1744 he became extraordinary war and domain councilor at the Pomeranian War and Domain Chamber in Stettin . In 1746 he was transferred to the Neumärkischen War and Domain Chamber in Küstrin as an ordinary war and domain councilor .

In December 1762 he was transferred back to Stettin, where he was promoted to President of the Chamber in April 1763. The previous President of the Chamber, Georg Wilhelm von Aschersleben , had been dismissed mercilessly by the King. As chamber president, Schöning also worked with Franz Balthasar Schönberg von Brenkenhoff , who carried out several melioration projects in Pomerania on behalf of the king . Later there were conflicts of competence between the two. In 1780 Schöning was one of two officials who, on behalf of the king, had to check Brenkenhoff's coffers and discovered there was a considerable shortfall. Schöning died in 1787. He was succeeded in office by the previous first chamber director, Carl Wilhelm von Bessel .

Schöning had been married to a von Hindenburg since 1752 . He left no children.

Two villages were named after Schöning: A village that was rebuilt during his tenure as President of the Chamber after the lowering of the Madüsees in 1770 was given the place name Schöningen . A town owned by the town of Rügenwalde , which was newly laid out in 1754, was given the place name Schöningswalde . In 1771 the Chamber had sent two war and domain councils to Rügenwalde to investigate the state of the town's treasury. They apparently noticed that the new village did not yet have an official name. They made the proposal to name the village Schöningswalde in honor of their boss, which was approved on August 26, 1771.
