Hans Fritsche (politician)

Hans Fritsche (born September 4, 1832 in Stendal ; † March 16, 1898 in Charlottenburg ) was a German lawyer and local politician and from 1877 to 1898 mayor of Charlottenburg (from 1897 mayor). In Charlottenburg, Fritschestrasse, named in 1905, commemorates him .

Life

Fritsche studied political science and law in Berlin and initially worked as a judge in Strasburg in West Prussia and Graudenz . His career in local politics in 1870 as Mayor of Bernburg . In 1874 he resigned as mayor at the head of the citizenship of Guben . On January 3, 1877, Fritsche took up the post of mayor of the city ​​of Charlottenburg, which was located at the gates of Berlin and had just been spun off from the Teltow district ( mayor from 1887 ). During his tenure, the population of Charlottenburg grew from 26,000 to 180,000. After Fritsche's death in 1898, Kurt Schustehrus succeeded him as Lord Mayor of Charlottenburg.

The city of Charlottenburg and later the city of Berlin honored him with an honorary grave (not extended in 2017) at Luisenfriedhof II in Westend and with the Fritsche Foundation named after him to support the survivors of city officials and employees.
