Hans G. Hachmann

Hans G. Hachmann (* 29. May 1923 in Berlin , † 22. October 2007 in Forest Hills, New York City ) was a from Germany originating American lawyer . He was President of the Max Kade Foundation in New York from 1999 to 2003.

Life

Hachmann emigrated to the USA with his parents in 1928. After studying law and obtaining a doctorate from Harvard College and Harvard Law School , he worked as a consultant to a large international oil company and as a lawyer with an office on Park Avenue in New York. He was the owner of the "Liederkranz Building" at 6 East 87th Street in New York, which is also the seat of the "Liederkranz Club of New York".

He was married to his wife Evangeline since 1948. The children Peter, Margaret, Heidi and Barbara emerged from the marriage.

Act

He was involved in numerous organizations and committees for German-American relations, including the German Round Table (GART) and the Advisory Council of the German House of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at New York University , the largest private university in the United States . Until 2003 he was President of the Max Kade Foundation in New York and has promoted scientific and cultural exchange with Germany since the end of World War II; He supported the construction of canteens, libraries and many of the 22 student dormitories (“Max-Kade-Haus”) of the German Student Union . In 1979 he co-founded the German School New York (DSNY) .

Hans G. Hachmann was made an honorary member of the German Student Union in 2002. For his commitment, he was honored with the title of Honorary Senator of the Bauhaus University Weimar , the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (2001) and the Ruprecht Karls University Heidelberg (2002) as well as an honorary membership of the University of Potsdam (2002). He was also an honorary member of the council of the University of Rostock .

In 2003 he was awarded the Medal of Honor "Bene Merito" by the Austrian Academy of Sciences for his "continuous pursuit of the goals of the founder of the Max Kade Foundation and his commitment to make this scholarship program attractive for young scientists in Austria even in difficult financial times" .
