Hans Geiger (politician)

Hans Geiger (born November 17, 1912 in Neckarsulm ; † February 20, 1986 in Leonberg ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school, Geiger completed an engine fitter apprenticeship at the NSU works , which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He then worked in the profession he had learned before he became unemployed in 1931. He later got employment at various car factories in Württemberg . From 1936 to 1945 he worked again as an engine fitter in the testing department at the NSU works. In 1938 he passed the master craftsman's examination in the automotive trade.

After the Second World War Geiger worked as a fitter in a Neckarsulm jute spinning mill, where he was chairman of the works council. In 1947 he became an authorized representative of IG Metall and in the 1950s he was managing director of the DGB in Aalen . In 1949 he was co-founder and later chairman of the supervisory board of the Heimstättengenossenschaft Aalen. From 1960 to 1972 he acted as deputy chairman of the DGB regional district of Baden-Württemberg , based in Stuttgart .

politics

Geiger joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ) in 1927 and joined the SPD in 1931. From 1946 to 1951 he was a local councilor in Neckarsulm, then until 1960 in Aalen. From 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden .

He was a member of the German Bundestag from January 1, 1954, when he replaced the resigned MP Hermann Veit , until 1976. In the federal elections in 1957 , 1961 , 1965 and 1969 , he entered parliament via the SPD's state list. In the 1972 federal election he won the direct mandate in constituency 169 (Leonberg-Vaihingen) with a 27-vote lead .
