Hans Georg Schachtschabel (born March 16, 1914 in Dessau , † October 29, 1993 in Mannheim ) was a German SPD politician . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1983.

Life

Schachtschabel attended elementary school in Dessau and high schools in Dessau and Köthen. After graduating from high school in 1933, he studied economics in Leipzig, Giessen and Vienna. In 1937 he received his doctorate from the University of Leipzig . He then worked as an assistant at the universities in Kiel and Halle , where he completed his habilitation under Waldemar Mitscherlich in 1940 on the subject of "A system of economics - a contribution to the question of the economics of a structured and organized economy" and began teaching. During the uprising against Mitscherlich, organized by the National Socialist German Student Union from 1940, Schachtschabel, who was one of Mitscherlich's supporters, became one of the points of attack after his transfer. In 1941 he was banned from practicing his profession and drafted into military service. In 1941/42 he worked for the Foreign Office's archives commission. After his return to Halle there were protests that led to his transfer to the University of Marburg in 1943 .

After the end of the Second World War, he resumed teaching in Marburg. Due to false information in a registration form, Schachtschabel was dismissed from the University of Marburg in 1949 and took over the management of the institute for social science research in Darmstadt and a teaching position for economics at the Mannheim Business School , where he received an extraordinary professorship in 1952. From 1962 Schachtschabel held the chair for economic and social policy at the university, which was promoted to university in 1967. In 1982 he retired. Schachtschabel was married and had two children.

Political activity

Schachtschabel, who had been a member of the SA since 1933 and the SS since 1935 , joined the NSDAP in 1937 (membership number 5,730,945). In 1946 he became a member of the SPD, for which he was elected to the Mannheim City Council from 1953 to 1970 and from 1968 chaired the SPD parliamentary group. In 1969 he moved into the Bundestag , where he represented the Mannheim II constituency until 1983 . From 1974 to 1975 he was also a member of the European Parliament .
