Hans Gram

Hans Gram (born October 28, 1685 in Bjergby , Jutland , † February 19, 1748 ) was a Danish philologist and historian . He was considered the father of critical historical research in Denmark.
Life
Hans Gram became professor of Greek in 1714 . He was considered a scholar in the subjects of antiquity far beyond the borders of Denmark. In 1722 Gram published his work in several editions "Nucleus latinitatis - quo pleraeque Romani sermonis voces, ex classicis auctoribus aureae argenteaeque aetatis, ordine etymologico adductae et interpretatione vernacula expositae comprehendentur" .
From 1730 to 1748 he was the head of the royal library. On November 13, 1742 he founded with Johan Ludvig von Holstein the by decree of Christian VI. called "Collegium Antiquitatum" into being, which is now the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences ( Det Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab ). He had his own library with a collection of around 24,000 books and 300 manuscripts; the books were auctioned after his death, the manuscripts received the "Videnskabernes Selskab".
Gram's student was u. a. Jacob Langebek (1710–1775), the later editor of the "Scriptores rerum danicarum".
