Hans Hönlein

Hans Hönlein (born July 2, 1875 in Lohr am Main ; † September 26, 1952 there ) was a German doctor, medical adviser, local researcher of the Spessart region and chairman of the Spessart Association . He was nicknamed the "Spessart father" by his contemporaries.

education

Hans Hönlein attended the Latin School in Lohr am Main and the Gymnasium Münnerstadt . After graduating from high school, he began studying medicine at the University of Würzburg , where he joined the Corps Bavaria .

Working life

After several stations in his medical work, he became head of the Maria-Theresia-Heim lung sanatorium, founded in 1914 above Sackenbach am Main , today a district of Lohr.

In his free time he was involved as an archivist for the Lohr district . In 1932 he became 1st Chairman of the Spessart Association. The establishment of the "Spessart Library", an extensive collection of rare literature about the Spessart region, was a particular success. This library was acquired by the Aschaffenburg History and Art Association in 1953.

Hönlein also wrote many essays and books on the history of the Spessart Dream himself.

The market town of Frammersbach awarded Hönlein honorary citizenship on March 3, 1951 for his work "The Frammersbacher Carters and their Wives' Gippentacht".

In Aschaffenburg the Hönleinweg reminds of him, in Haibach and in Lohr-Sackenbach there is a Dr.-Hans-Hönlein-Straße each.

The observation tower built at his suggestion on the Stengerts mountain in the Schweinheim (Aschaffenburg) district was renamed the Dr. Hönlein Tower after the Second World War.
