Hans Heimann

Hans Heimann (born April 25, 1922 in Biel , † July 28, 2006 in Tübingen ) was a Swiss psychiatrist .

Life

Heimann graduated from high school in Biel and studied medicine at the Universities of Geneva and Bern from 1941 to 1947 , where he graduated with the state examination and in 1949 with a doctorate . From 1948 to 1952 he was an assistant at the Waldau Psychiatric University Clinic in Bern. In 1953 he received his habilitation and was appointed senior physician . In 1955 he completed internal training in Bern. Based on experience gained during study visits to France, Canada and the United States, he also set up a psychophysiologically oriented medical-psychological laboratory in Bern . In 1963 he was appointed part-time associate professor in Bern. In 1964 he went to the University of Lausanne , where he set up and headed a research department for psychopathology at the Psychiatric Clinic. In 1972 he was appointed Professeur associé in Lausanne . In 1974 he became a full professor of psychiatry at the University of Tübingen and director of the psychiatric clinic. In 1990 Heimann retired.

The German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurology (DGPPN) awards the Hans Heimann Prize to doctoral students and their supervisors for the best dissertations in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy. In 1986 Heimann was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
