Hans Heinrich Brunner

Hans Heinrich Brunner (born August 24, 1918 in Obstalden GL ; † November 28, 1987 in Zurich ) was a Reformed Swiss theologian .

Brunner, the eldest son of the pastor and later professor Emil Brunner , studied Protestant theology at the universities of Zurich , Basel and Geneva from 1937 . In 1943 he became assistant to the general secretary of the World Council of Churches, which was being founded, and organized inter-church help for the post-war period. After graduating as Dr. theol. In 1947 in New York City , he became pastor in Marthalen in 1948 . Here he married Lilo Gutekunst in 1950.

From 1954 to 1959 he worked as a student pastor in Zurich. Then he was pastor in Zurich- Höngg until retirement in 1984 and editor-in-chief of the church messenger for the canton of Zurich , in which he published many articles on church issues. A collection of his texts at the time was awarded the literary prize of the Canton of Zurich in 1975. His successful books also include Church without Illusions , which wanted to show the Swiss national churches the way into the existence of the diaspora .

Brunner was a member of the Zurich Church Synod and the social commission of the Swiss Evangelical Church Federation .

He found his final resting place in the Zurich Hönggerberg cemetery . His tomb was lifted.
