Hans Huwer (born May 29, 1953 in Oberthal / Saar ) is a German visual artist , painter and graphic artist .

life and work

Hans Huwer was born in Oberthal in Saarland, the second of five children to miner Herbert Huwer and his wife Maria (née Schmidt). After an apprenticeship as a book printer from 1968 to 1971, he studied from 1972 to 1976 at the Saarland University of Applied Sciences in Saarbrücken, design department under Professors Oskar Holweck (basic apprenticeship) and Robert Sessler ( graphics ). He has been working as a freelance artist since 1983. Hans Huwer lives and works in Spiesen-Elversberg .

The basics of graphic design and systematic image organization imparted in his training characterize his artistic work. The starting point of the painterly and graphic actions is always a grid of orthogonal lines cut into the cardboard. The sharp burrs offer the color and ink solutions dripped on in a fixed order using a pipette and, in other examples, the multiple overlapping chalk hatchings that are not exactly calculable. Under laboratory conditions, Huwer produces small-scale test series every day in which he researches the interaction of the materials used in different consistencies and variations. Detailed documentation of the work steps and material combinations creates an archive of templates that the artist can use when composing his works later. When designing the picture, he consciously uses chance as a design factor. Using lots, dice or computer-generated random numbers, he determines the places in the grid where he applies certain colors. As a result, he repeatedly creates new and surprising color events in his strictly calculated work processes.
