Hans Iversen Wandal

Hans Iversen Wandal (born August 20, 1579 in Ribe , † December 16, 1641 in Viborg ) was a Danish Lutheran theologian and bishop .

Life

After studying at the University of Copenhagen , Wandal traveled to Germany in 1601 to visit Wittenberg and other universities. After his return he became a tutor in 1602 and went on further trips abroad. He obtained his master's degree in Strasbourg . In 1613 he became a pastor in Odense .

In 1617 King Christian IV appointed him Bishop of Viborg. In 1620 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD. He advocated stronger church discipline. The theology professor and bishop Hans Wandal (1624–1675) was his son.
