Hans Dietschy

Hans Dietschy (born October 21, 1912 in Hägendorf ; † October 13, 1991 in Basel ) was a Swiss ethnologist , historian and politician ( EPP ).

Life

Dietschy studied ethnology and history at the universities of Basel and Berlin and received his doctorate in 1939 with a thesis on American clubs and wooden swords . From 1940 to 1954 he was a teacher at the Cantonal Commercial School in Basel. From 1954 to 1955 he did research in Brazil , where he studied the culture of the Karajá Indians. From 1956 to 1964 he taught ethnopsychology at the CG Jung Institute in Zurich. From 1959 to 1963 Dietschy represented the Evangelical People's Party in the Grand Council . From 1964 to 1970 he was a professor at the École pratique des hautes études in Paris.

Dietschy published several studies on Mexican studies and on South American Indian cultures as well as their kinship terminology and structure .
