Hans Janke (born July 29, 1944 in Erwitte ) is a German journalist and media manager. From 1995 to 2009 he was deputy program director of ZDF and from 1983 to 1989 he headed the Grimme Institute .

Life

Janke was born in Erwitte, Westphalia, and studied journalism, history and philosophy in Bochum and Münster from 1964 to 1973 . In 1967 he sat in on the Saarländischer Rundfunk and later worked as a freelance journalist for NDR , WDR and Süddeutschen Rundfunk . In 1983 he took over the management of the Adolf Grimme Institute in Marl .

In 1989 he went to ZDF and in 1992 became head of the main feature film department there. Among other things, he developed the TV film of the week concept and earned recognition beyond Germany for his talent for successfully bringing multi-part TV films into programs. In 1995 he also became deputy program director of ZDF. In autumn 2001 he was discussed as a possible successor to ZDF director Dieter Stolte . When Markus Schächter was elected as the new director in the following year , Janke , who was close to the SPD , was considered a serious candidate for his successor as program director, but his appointment failed due to resistance from the conservative wing on the ZDF board of directors.

Also in 2002, the SWR made him the offer to take up the post of TV director there, but Janke decided to stay with ZDF and, in addition to his previous duties, became the coordinator for fictional programs. In 2008 he was awarded the Hans Abich Prize for his services . In the same year he also received the special prize of the Robert Geisendörfer Prize . On April 30, 2009, he retired. On leaving, Markus Schächter praised him as the “grand master of his field” and called him “one of the most prominent personalities on German television”.

Janke was a member of the supervisory board of the Adolf Grimme Institute and was a high-ranking member of several film funding companies. In 2010 he was a member of the jury for the 45th Golden Camera .
