Hans D. Jarass

Hans Dieter Jarass (born September 29, 1945 in Deggendorf ) is a German legal scholar .

After graduating from high school in Deggendorf in 1965, Jarass studied law, mathematics and political science at the University of Munich . He passed the first state examination in law in 1970. He then studied at Harvard Law School , where he obtained a Master of Laws in 1972 . This was followed by a legal clerkship in Munich, and in 1974 Jarass passed the second state examination. In the same year he received his doctorate and in 1977 he completed his habilitation in Munich.

In 1978 he was appointed professor for public law at the Free University of Berlin and in 1982 he was appointed full professor at the University of Bochum . In 1990 he became director of the Institute for German and European Environmental Law there. In 1995 Jarass took over the chair for German and European public law at the University of Münster and in the following year he became head of the Institute for Environmental and Planning Law. He retired in autumn 2012. He is still director of the Central Institute for Spatial Planning at the University of Münster. Since September 2010 Jarass has also been working as of counsel for the Redeker Sellner Dahs law firm .

His main research interests are environmental and planning law , fundamental rights , European law and media law .

Jarass is married and has two children.
