Hans Kyser

Hans Kyser (born July 23, 1882 in Graudenz , † October 24, 1940 in Berlin ) was a German writer , screenwriter , radio play author and film director .

Life

Kyser studied history, German literature and philosophy in Berlin and made contacts with the Friedrichshagener poet circle . In 1909 he took part in the founding of the Association of German Writers (SDS). In the same year his first novel Der Blumenhiob was published .

During the First World War , Kyser was a war correspondent in Russia. After the war he became chairman of the SDS and was then a member of the management of S. Fischer Verlag . In the 1920s he wrote several scripts for the film. As in his plays, he showed a preference for historical material, especially from the German past.

Among other things, in 1925 he wrote the screenplay for the first German attempt at talkies, Das Mädchen mit den Schwefelhölzern . After the success of the classic Faust - a German folk tale , he was offered the opportunity to direct a Luther biography. Although the film was well received, it remained his only directorial work.

Kyser, chief dramaturge at Bavaria Film AG in Munich , died at the age of 58 as a result of an operation.
