Hans Lohmann (born September 16, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Hans Lohmann studied since 1966 at the Free University of Berlin , the University of Basel and the University of Würzburg . In 1970 he was a DAAD scholarship holder in Greece, and in 1971/72 in Italy. In 1975 he received his doctorate with a thesis on tombs on Lower Italian vases under Erika Simon in Würzburg. With the travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute , Lohmann traveled to the Mediterranean region in 1977/78 - including Italy, North Africa, Spain, Turkey and Syria. After working as excavation manager in Augst ( Augusta Raurica ) and Kaiseraugst near Basel , he became a scientific advisor at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Bonn in 1979 . In 1981 he moved to the University of Bochum , where Lohmann worked at the Institute for Classical Archeology . He completed his habilitation in 1990 with a thesis on the subject of Atene - research on the settlement and economic structure of the classical attic and then became an associate professor in Bochum.

Lohmann is particularly concerned with the settlement archeology of the Mediterranean region. In addition to surveys and research in Attica from 1990 to 1999, especially on the subject of Attic fortresses, from 1990 to 1999 he explored the peninsula of Miletus, the hinterland of the ancient metropolis of Miletus in Ionia . In 2001 he began the systematic exploration of the Mykale Mountains in western Asia Minor (today Dilek Dağları ). There he discovered the archaic Panionion in 2004 , the central sanctuary of the Ionian Federation , which had previously been wrongly located at the northern foot of the mountains near Güzelçamlı . The Temple of Poseidon Helikonios , which was already severely disturbed by robbery graves , was completely uncovered in the course of an emergency excavation from 2005 to 2007, and in 2009 the excavation was extended to the settlement in the vicinity of the temple.
