Hans Otto von der Lühe

Hans Otto Freiherr von der Lühe (born May 21, 1762 in Copenhagen ; † March 13, 1836 in Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg civil servant and politician.

Lühe was the son of the Danish colonel of the cavalry Hans Albert von der Lühe. His mother Hedwig Dorothe Margaretha née von Quintzone (also partly spelled Quitzau or Quizow) was the daughter of a lieutenant colonel from Mecklenburg. Lühe belonged to the Protestant Church.

Life

Hans Otto von der Lühe studied law at the Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart from November 1772 to April 1783 and joined the Württemberg state service as a councilor in 1783. He was court judge and from 1806 president of the college of higher justice. From March 30, 1809 to November 10, 1817, he headed the Württemberg Ministry of Justice and was also Grand Chancellor. In the constitutional struggles that took place from 1815 to 1819, he represented the old Württemberg point of view, but was not himself a member of the state assemblies . From November 18, 1817 to July 29, 1821, Lühe was Minister of State and President of the Privy Council , which corresponded to the position of Prime Minister. His successor as President of the Privy Council was Christian Friedrich von Otto .

On November 16, 1791, Hans Otto von der Lühe married Karoline Regine Friederike Elisabeth von Wächter (1769–1845), daughter of Karl Eberhard von Wächter and his wife Regina Katharina geb. Mayer. The couple had 6 children.

In 1818 he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown .
