Live and act

After completing his apprenticeship as a car mechanic, Royer worked for nine years as a state-certified cave and mountain guide and as a ski instructor. He was the deputy head of the international torchbearer movement and from 1991 until his death director of the "Tauernhof", a leisure center with an evangelical Bible school in the Austrian ski resort of Schladming ( Styria ). In the neighboring town of Ramsau am Dachstein he lived with his wife and three children.

He has traveled to numerous countries and has given lectures and sermons at conferences, meetings and in parishes. He saw himself as a conservative Christian who was faithful to the Bible and emphasized that being a Christian depends less on adherence to strict biblical rules than on holistic devotion to the risen Jesus Christ . The core of his sermons was the advice not to desperately want to become “holy” through one's own efforts, but to leave the “ management ” to God himself . Royer wrote several books. As a pedagogue , Royer was able to further expand the connection between sport and faith through his work as a mountain guide and ski instructor and develop a special form of experiential education ; the so-called "Christ-centered experiential education" ("Upward Bound" as a further development of " Outward Bound "). Royer introduced this method in the book “Only he who lets go is held”. Together with the sports chaplain Jörg Walcher, he published the “Winter Sports Bible” for the 2013 World Ski Championships .

Royer died on August 17, 2013 in a paragliding accident.
