life and work

Hans Przyrembel is the oldest of three children of the married couple Carl and Therese Przyrembel (nee Günther). Przyrembel completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith in Leipzig from 1915 and was drafted as a soldier towards the end of the First World War . In the post-war period he lived off odd jobs as a locksmith.

From 1924 to 1928 he studied at the Bauhaus and worked there in the metal workshop. His training there began with the preliminary course with László Moholy-Nagy ; his journeyman's piece as a silversmith, a jug, he made in 1928 in the metal workshop.

In the last two years at the Bauhaus, he worked closely with Marianne Brandt on the design of modern lamps . Then he took over Wolfgang Tümpel's workshop in Halle and worked with the previous owner before setting up his own workshop in Leipzig in 1929 . There he created lamps and other devices. One brand name he created was ha-p-er-Leuchten. Przyrembel also developed a cover for a gas boiler for the Junkers works in Dessau . In 1932 he passed the master's examination as a goldsmith and silversmith.

During the Second World War , Przyrembel did six years of military service. He may have died in captivity.

Hans Przyrembel was married to Ilse Neidhardt. The marriage resulted in a son, Hans-Peter Przyrembel, who had a fatal motorcycle accident in Spain in the early 1970s. He left two daughters who lived in Frankfurt am Main in 1982.

Some of Przyrembel's designs are still in use; z. For example, a tea caddy designed in 1924 or 1926 based on his design is still available, as is a pendant lamp that Przyrembel designed in 1928.
