Hans Riedl (Lieutenant General)

Hans Riedl (born February 4, 1919 in Strasbourg in Carinthia ; † April 22, 2007 in Oberndorf near Salzburg ) was an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces , most recently in the rank of lieutenant general . From 1978 to 1982 he was military commander of Salzburg .

Life

Hans Riedl was born on February 4, 1919 in Strasbourg in Carinthia. After primary school and high school graduation in Vienna in 1938, he came to anti-tank department 47 in Hall in Tirol . This department was part of the 2nd Mountain Division of the German Wehrmacht . During the Second World War he was used as an officer on various fronts, where he was wounded several times.

After attending a teacher training institute, he worked as the school director in Oberndorf until he joined the newly formed armed forces in 1955 . As a result, he was deployed in the Border Guard Department 8 and the Feldjäger Battalion 8 in the Rainer barracks . Hans Riedl completed the general staff course and became chief of staff of the 8th Mountain Brigade and later head of the operations department of Group Command III in Salzburg.

From 1966 to 1975 he was employed in the Federal Ministry for National Defense .

In 1975 Hans Riedl became deputy commander of the II Corps on January 1, 1978, military commander of Salzburg. He held this position until his retirement in 1982. Engelbert Lagler followed him .
