Hans Schmidt-Leonhardt
Hans Schmidt-Leonhardt (born August 6, 1886 in Leipzig , † April 1945 in Berlin ) was a leading press lawyer in the German Reich from 1933 to 1945 .
Life
As the son of a factory owner, Schmidt-Leonhardt attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Leipzig from 1905 . He became a member of the Corps Lusatia Leipzig in 1906 and headed the Kösener Congress in 1914 . He made 1909 the state examination and received his doctorate in 1910 in Leipzig for Dr. iur.
After he had passed the assessor examination in 1913 , he began his civil service career in 1914 in the internal administration of the Kingdom of Saxony . In 1920 he was appointed government councilor in the Ministry of Economic Affairs. His work The Second Proletariat , published in the same year, was briefly mentioned a year later in Paul Levi's work Our Way . Schmidt-Leonhardt continued his career in 1924 at the Ministry of the Interior and in 1925 at the Saxon Legation in Berlin. In 1926 he became a senior councilor in the Reich Ministry of the Interior .
In 1933 he went to the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda as a specialist in press law . As Ministerialrat he headed the legal department of the ministry and was also chairman of the Reich Chamber of Culture . He published on the Chamber and the Editor's Law . In May 1937 Schmidt-Leonhardt joined the National Socialist German Workers' Party . The Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin appointed him honorary professor in 1938 . In 1939 he became ministerial conductor . At the end of the war he committed suicide .
