Hans Schmidt (theologian, 1877)
Hans Schmidt (born May 10, 1877 in Wolmirstedt near Magdeburg , † January 20, 1953 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German Protestant theologian .
biography
During his studies Schmidt became a member of the Association of German Students in Berlin . After studying Protestant theology , he worked from 1904 to 1907 as a study inspector at the Predigerseminar in Naumburg am Queis in Lower Silesia . His first scientific publication in 1905 ( on the rhythmic translation of Hebrew poetry ) dates from this time . From 1907 to 1914 he was pastor of the Maria Magdalenen Church in Breslau . In 1909 he completed his habilitation at the University of Breslau for the Old Testament . In 1910 and 1911 he accompanied Gustaf Dalman on his excursions through the Holy Land. He received his first extraordinary professorship in 1914 at the University of Tübingen . In 1921 he was appointed full professor at the University of Gießen and in 1928 at the unified University of Halle-Wittenberg . In 1933 he joined the NSDAP and was one of the anti-Semitic German Christians until 1936 . In 1945 he was retired. In 1949 he became a member of the CDU .
Schmidt died on January 20, 1953, at the age of 75 in Halle. He was buried in the Laurentiusfriedhof .
