Hans Stalzer
Hans Stalzer (born April 8, 1878 in Vienna ; † June 30, 1940 there ) was an Austrian landscape , portrait and war painter .
life and work
Stalzer was the son of a Viennese businessman and first attended high school; then he received private art lessons.
He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His teachers were Eduard Peithner von Lichtenfels , Siegmund L'Allemand , Kasimir Pochwalski and August Eisenmenger . As a winner of the Rome Prize, he went on study trips to Italy in 1899, 1905 and 1906 .
In February 1915 Hans Stalzer enlisted as volunteer Annual for kuk Army one. During the First World War , he initially worked as a technical draftsman at the imperial and royal fortress construction department. In 1916 and 1917 he studied at officers' schools before he was accepted as a war painter in the art group of the Austro-Hungarian war press quarter . As such, he painted portraits of Prince Leopold of Bavaria , Count Ottokar Czernin and Csáky , Talât Pascha and many others at the Brest-Litowsk Peace Congress .
From 1909 Hans Stalzer was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . From 1922 to 1924 he lived in Sweden .
Stalzer achieved particular importance as a portrait painter, as he portrayed a large number of important personalities at home and abroad, statesmen, artists, representatives of the nobility, science and business. Parts of his oeuvre can be found in the Wien Museum , the Albertina , the Army History Museum and the art collection of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde . Despite his numerous jobs, Hans Stalzer lived in poor circumstances. He was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
