Hans Strache

Hans Strache (born September 28, 1886 in Bernau near Berlin , † November 16, 1917 in Orléans ) was a German classical philologist and high school teacher .

Life

Hans Strache, the only son of the elementary school teacher Wilhelm Strache, attended the Friedrichs-Gymnasium in Berlin until 1905 and then studied classical philology, philosophy and history at the Berlin University . He spent the summer semester of 1906 at the University of Marburg . In Berlin he was in on 14 August 1909 Hermann Diels and Eduard north with the dissertation De Arii Didymi in morali philosophia auctoribus doctorate . On May 31, 1910, he passed the state examination in philosophy, Latin, Greek and history with distinction.

From 1910 to 1912 Strache completed the preparatory service for the higher teaching post: 1910/1911 the seminar year at the Askanisches Gymnasium , 1911/1912 the trial year at the Friedrichs Gymnasium. On October 1, 1913, he was employed there as a senior teacher.

Since March 15, 1915, Strache took part in the First World War as a grenadier of the 3rd Queen Elisabeth Guard Grenadier Regiment . He was stationed on the Western Front. In October 1917 he was seriously wounded and taken prisoner by the French and died on November 16 in the hospital in Orléans.

Strache's research focus was ancient philosophy in the age of Hellenism . His book The Eclecticism of Antiochus of Askalon was published posthumously in 1921 in the Philological Studies series (issue 26). An edition of the Topik and the writing De sophisticis elenchis by Aristotle was published in 1923 by Max Wallies .
