Max Wallies

Max Wallies , Latin Maximilianus Wallies (born July 15, 1856 in Kolberg , Pomerania Province , † August 28, 1925 in Berlin ) was a German classical scholar .

Wallies attended the Berlin Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster and passed the school leaving examination there in 1874. He then studied Classical Philology and received his doctorate from the University of Halle in 1878 . The following year he passed the state examination in German, Latin and Greek. He completed his probationary year in 1879 at the Joachimsthal Gymnasium , in 1880 he became a scientific assistant teacher, in 1881 a full teacher and in 1892 a senior teacher at the Berlin Sophiengymnasium . In 1899 he was awarded the title of professor and in 1910 the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class. In 1921 he retired.

Wallies had dealt with the Topic of Aristotle and the Topic of Cicero in his own work . For the Commentaria in Aristotelem Graeca he edited various Aristotle commentaries in a total of eight volumes. In 1923 he posthumously published an edition of the topic and the text De sophisticis elenchis by Aristotle, prepared by Hans Strache, who had been severely wounded in captivity during the First World War .
