Christian Friedrich Wilhelm vom Ploetz (born March 15, 1745 in Stuchow , † September 6, 1816 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commandant of Stettin .

He was the son of the heir of Stuchow Balthasar Heinrich von Ploetz (* October 15, 1694 - December 30, 1761) and his wife Juliana Sophia Sabina, born von Kleist (1716–1767). She was a daughter of Joachim Ewald von Kleist (1684–1738), heir to Zeblin and Warnin and sister of Ewald Christian von Kleist . His brothers were the future lieutenant general and governor of Warsaw Franz Heinrich Christian von Ploetz (1741–1819) and Carl Gustav von Ploetz (1743–1796), Herr auf Stuchow and Medewitz. Ploetz also had five sisters.

Military career

In 1759, during the Seven Years' War, Ploetz joined the infantry regiment "von Düringshofen" of the Prussian army as a private corporal . He took part in the battles near Liegnitz , Torgau and Freiberg , the crossing over the Mulde and the siege of Dresden . In May 1763 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and from mid-March 1774 worked as a prime lieutenant and inspection adjutant at the Westphalian infantry inspection. During the War of the Bavarian Succession , Ploetz fought in battle near Neustadt in 1778/79. By January 1783 he rose to captain and chief of the grenadier company. At the end of October 1790, Ploetz joined the infantry regiment of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm as a major and battalion commander . A friendly relationship developed between the two over the next few years. On August 5, 1799, he became a lieutenant colonel and on July 18, 1800, he was colonel and commander of the regiment. For the regiment he built a military school in Potsdam in 1801 and received the order Pour le Mérite on the occasion of a review in the same year . In 1803 he became a member of the Military Society in Berlin . After the fighting at Jena and Auerstedt and the dissolution of the army, he initially remained inactive, but was promoted to major general in 1811. As such, he commanded a division of the Pomeranian Landwehr and besieged Stettin in 1813. After the fortress was surrendered on November 22, 1813, he was then commandant of the fortress. On 20 August 1814 Ploetz was with the character as a lieutenant general and an annual pension of 1000 thalers the farewell granted. He died unmarried.
