Franz Heinrich Christian von Ploetz (born December 15, 1741 - † February 6, 1819 in Wriezen ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general, chief of infantry regiment No. 42 and commander of Warsaw .

He came in 1755 as a private corporal in Infantry Regiment No. 34 (Prince Ferdinand). With him he took part in the Seven Years War and fought in the battles of Prague , Breslau (wounded), Leuthen (wounded), Kay , Kunersdorf , Liegnitz (wounded), Torgau , Hochkirch and the sieges of Prague, Breslau, Olomouc , Dresden, Schweidnitz (wounded) and the battles of Pretzsch and Hoyerswerda . At that time he was ensign on October 10, 1757, on January 7, 1758 Seconde-Lieutenant and on February 7, 1762 Premier-Lieutenant.

After the war he became staff captain on June 25, 1767 and real captain and company commander on May 23, 1768. During the War of the Bavarian Succession he fought in battle near Jägerndorf . On May 25, 1782 he became major, on June 1, 1787 commander of the Grenadier Battalion and on May 16, 1789 commander of Infantry Regiment No. 13 in Berlin. On August 11, 1790, he became a lieutenant colonel and on June 4, 1792, a colonel.

During the Polish War of 1794/1795 he was entrusted with the control of the magazines in Silesia and on April 2, 1794 he became chief of the 42nd Infantry Regiment . On May 20, 1798, he was promoted to major general (patent from June 1, 1798). During the revue in Warsaw on June 25, 1802 he received the Pour le Mérite . On May 20, 1805 he was also appointed lieutenant general (patent from May 25, 1805).

In the Fourth Coalition War , he was ad interim commander of Warsaw on September 13, 1806 , and on November 22, 1806, he was given command of the garrison there. When the French approached, he vacated Warsaw because many of his Polish soldiers had deserted. In the end, only one battalion remained of his regiment. He fought in the battle of Preussisch Eylau and the skirmishes near Braunsberg and Heiligenbeil . But his health was already badly damaged, so after the battles in Liebstadt and Wackern on May 4, 1807, he received his farewell with a pension of 1000 thalers. He died on February 6, 1819 in Wriezen.

His parents were Balthasar Heinrich von Ploetz (* October 15, 1694; † December 30, 1761) heir of Stuchow and his wife Juliana Sophia Sabina von Kleist (1716–1767), daughter of Joachim Ewald von Kleist (1684–1738) heir Zeblin and Warnin and sister of Ewald Christian von Kleist . His brothers were Lieutenant General Christian Friedrich Wilhelm von Ploetz (1745-1816), most recently in command of Stettin and Carl Gustav von Ploetz († 1796), Lord on Stuchow and Medewitz.

He was married to Fredricke Ottilie von Karstedt (born January 26, 1746 - April 1, 1823) since December 15, 1778 . She was the widow Johannes Dubislaff Albrecht von Grape (1725–1777) heir to Werder. His wife had a daughter from their first marriage, Christiane Luise Sophie Friederike von Grape . One daughter was married to Lieutenant Colonel von Pettenhofer .
