Hans Christian Harald Tegner (born November 30, 1853 in Copenhagen , † April 2, 1932 in Fredensborg ) was a Danish illustrator, painter and draftsman .

Life

Tegner was the son of the lithographer Isac Wilhelm Tegner (1815-1893) and his first wife Anne Emilie (née Hansen, 1834-1862). As an apprentice he worked for about 8 years with his father and in the lithographic institute at "Kittendorff & Aagaard". He was taught drawing by CV Nielsen and studied from 1869 to 1878 at the Art Academy under J. Roed. In 1882 6 color illustrations for Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale Das Feuerzeug were on view in an exhibition and in 1889 he exhibited a watercolor with the title Fanetoget til Amalienborg . He spent the winter of 1882 to 1883 in Germany, France and Switzerland. He has been awarded medals and prizes several times.

His book artistic work influenced the taste of the time for almost a quarter of a century. He worked for Punch , Figaro and other newspapers and joke papers , was the artistic director of a porcelain factory and the crafts school at the Copenhagen Museum of Decorative Arts. His illustrations for the "Complete Comedies" ( Samtlige Comoedier ) by Ludvig Holberg and for Andersen's fairy tales are famous . In 1897 he was appointed professor.

October 24th. In 1896 he married in Sundby Helga (born Byberg, born January 13, 1862 - † February 26, 1945), a daughter of the businessman Ole Stub Hansen Byberg († 1882) and his wife Karen (born Møller, † 1889).
