Sigurd Hjorth Müller (born December 21, 1844 in Snedsted , Thisted ; died December 2, 1918 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish author, art and literary historian and teacher at schools in Copenhagen and Kolding .

Life

Müller was the son of Ludvig Christian Müller (1806-1851) and his wife Hanne Henriette (nee Hjorth, 1814-1898). He first attended the Latin school (Katedralskole) in Roskilde until 1863 and then began to study medicine. During this time he was invited to a trip to Italy by the landscape painter Thorald Læssøe. He stayed there for about 8 months and dropped out of medical school on his return. In 1872 he took part in the "Master Conference for Aesthetics" and worked as a teacher for Danish at a school in Copenhagen. From 1886 to 1901 he was principal at the Latin school in Kolding. He lived on Strandboulevarden No. 27 in Copenhagen.

Müller's first publication was a collection of poems that appeared in 1867, followed by translations and art historical articles in magazines such as the Morgenbladet , the Dagbladet or the Illustreret Tidende . He also wrote biographical contributions for the Dansk biografisk leksikon , including about the painter Carl Ludvig Thilson Locher or Salmonsen's Konversationsleksikon and other works.

Family
He was married to Maria Louise (née Biering, 1844–1908) on April 6, 1874. She was the daughter of the assistant professor Christian Henrik Biering (1813-1846) and his wife Maria Louise (née Sack, 1814-1845). They had a son, Paul Læsøe Müller.
