Henry Edward Sears (born May 11, 1870 in Boston , † October 19, 1920 in Beverly ) was an American sports marksman .

Henry Sears participated in the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm in three competitions. In the individual competition with the free pistol , he took seventh place with 459 points. In the team competition, he took first place together with Alfred Lane , Peter Dolfen and John Dietz . With 1916 points, the Americans held their own in front of the Swedish and British teams and thus became Olympic champions . Sears was the team's second best shooter with 474 points. With the dueling pistol over the 30-meter distance, he did not get past 21st place.

Sears attended Harvard University and graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1896 . He settled in Massachusetts as a doctor. In the Spanish-American War he also served in this capacity and reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel within the military . In 1920 Sears suffered a nervous breakdown, after which he spent several months in the hospital. When his wife had to undergo an operation for a serious illness, Sears shot himself in the heart the day before the scheduled operation.

His great-grandson Teddy Sears is an actor.
