Hans Erik Vestberg (born June 23, 1965 in Hudiksvall , Hälsingland , born Hans Erik Westberg ) is a Swedish economist and businessman. From 2007 he was CFO at Ericsson . From January 1st, 2010 to July 26th, 2016 he was Verkställande direktör ( Chairman of the Board of Management or CEO ). Since August 1, 2018, he has been working in the same position at the US wireless operator Verizon .

Training and professional development

Vestberg studied business administration at Uppsala University and graduated in 1991 with a civil engineer exam . He then got a job at the Ericsson subsidiary Ericsson Cables in his hometown of Hudiksvall. He then held various management positions at Ericsson in Sweden, but also in China , Chile and Brazil .

In 2003 Vestberg became head of the Global Services division and at the same time Senior Vice President , and in 2005 Executive Vice President . In October 2007 he was appointed Chief Financial Officer and First Executive Vice President .

On September 25, 2009, Ericsson announced that the current CEO, Carl-Henric Svanberg, is leaving the group at the end of the year and that Hans Vestberg will be his successor. Due to negative business developments, he was dismissed from this position in July 2016. His successor has been Börje Ekholm since January 2017 .

Family and free time

Hans Vestberg is married and has two children.

In his free time he devotes himself to handball , among other things . In his youth he was active as a handball player in the first Swedish league, for example at the clubs Stockholmspolisens IF and SoIK Hellas . From 2007 to 2016 he was chairman of the Swedish Handball Federation and then headed the Swedish National Olympic Committee for two years .
