Hans Wallson (born September 20, 1966 in Kiruna ) is a Swedish ice hockey coach and former player. Until the end of December 2017 he was the head coach of the ZSC Lions in the National League A (NLA).
Career
Wallson spent most of his playing career in his hometown of Kiruna . For two years he played for Kiruna IF (later Team Kiruna) in the second highest Swedish league Allsvenskan, otherwise in the third division or below. During his playing career, which ended in 2005, he took on coaching duties in Kiruna.
At Skellefteå AIK , he was employed as a coach in the youth department from 2009 and was already planned as the future head coach of the club's men's team in the first Swedish league SHL . When Skellefteå dismissed head coach Anders Forsberg shortly before the playoffs in February 2013, when it became known that he would switch to league rivals Modo after the current season , Wallson, who was coaching the club's U20s at the time, took over the leadership of the team together with the Assistant trainers Stefan Klockare and Bert Robertsson. Skellefteå were leaders at the time. Under Wallson's leadership, the team finished the points round first and became Swedish champions for the first time since 1977/78 in the following playoffs.
In the following season 2013/14 Wallson Skellefteå again led to the championship title and was named the best coach of the season by the Association of Swedish Ice Hockey Reporters.
For the third time in a row Skellefteå finished the SHL points round as leaders in the 2014/15 season. Under Wallson's leadership they reached the playoffs as defending champions again the final, but lost to the Växjö Lakers HC . Wallson was named SHL Trainer of the Year. In the Champions Hockey League , his team was eliminated in the semifinals.
In the 2015/16 season, Wallson steered Skellefteå into the quarter-finals of the Champions Hockey League , where they were defeated by HC Davos , and once again as first in the table in the SHL playoffs. They advanced again into the final series, but had to admit defeat to Frölunda HC .
In April 2016, Wallson signed a two-year contract with the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League A (NLA) and brought along his assistant Lars Johansson, with whom he had already worked at Skellefteå. In the 2016/17 season, under Wallson's leadership, Zurich came second in the points round and was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the championship round. At the end of December 2017, he was dismissed from the ZSC, the club justified the step with the lack of sporting success and the lack of development of the team. At the time of the split, the Zurich team was in seventh place in the National League .
