Hans Wehrli-Frei

Hans Wehrli-Frei (born March 19, 1927 - † October 16, 2011 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss athlete .

Life

Hans Wehrli was born on March 19, 1927. His father was Ruedi Wehrli, who was one of the founders of the Swiss Federal Athletics Association . He began with gymnastics and all -around competitions at a young age and in 1948 and 1949 he specialized in the sprint disciplines that he discovered during the “ Across Zurich ”.

In his career he has fought for 15 national titles, including five times Swiss champion in the 100 meter run and four times champion in the 200 meters . In 1950 he took part in the 4th European Championships in Brussels for the first time, but was eliminated over 100 meters in the preliminary run. His career highlight was participation in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki, where he was able to reach the quarter-finals over 100 meters. He also competed over 200 meters and as a runner in the 4 x 100 meter relay, he never got beyond the preliminary round. At the European Championships in 1954 in Bern , he competed over 100 and 200 meters and reached the semi-finals. He completed his last European Athletics Championships in 1958 in Stockholm , when he competed again in the 100-meter run and made it to the semi-finals. In the 1950s, Wehrli was the most successful athlete of the Winterthur City Gymnastics Club , to which he belonged all the time.

Hans Wehrli-Frei died on October 16, 2011 at the age of 84 in Winterthur. He leaves behind his wife Lisa and three children.
