Hans Wellmann (Linguist)

Hans Wellmann (born June 3, 1936 in Suttorf , Lower Saxony , † March 1, 2012 near Augsburg ) was a German linguist and Germanist .

Life

After graduating from the Max Planck Gymnasium in Bielefeld , he studied chemistry in Würzburg from 1956 to 1958 , then until 1963 in Bonn linguistics , literary studies , philosophy and geography . In 1963 and 1964 he was a research assistant for geography at RWTH Aachen University , before he worked as an assistant for German studies in Bonn until 1967, when he did his doctorate on the subject of collectives and collective words in German .

After participating in research projects at the Institute for German Language and accepting a teaching position at the University of Innsbruck , he completed his habilitation there in 1976. In the same year he became a full professor for German linguistics at the University of Osnabrück . From 1978 until his retirement in 2004 he was full professor for German linguistics at the University of Augsburg .

Wellmann was the author and editor of numerous publications.

He died on March 1, 2012.
