Hans Wolfram Hockl

Hans Wolfram Hockl (born October 2, 1912 in Csatád , German  Schadat , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † September 12, 1998 in Linz , Austria ) was a Banat Swabian dialect author.

Life

From 1924 to 1931 Hockl attended the German secondary school in Timișoara and then studied (1931-1935) at the University of Physical Education in Bucharest . After graduating, Hockl worked as an educator in Schäßburg (1935–36). Between 1935 and 1938 Hans Wolfram Hockl worked as a gymnastics teacher at the Banatia Teachers' Training College in Timișoara . From 1938 to 1940 he was appointed head of the Office for Physical Education in Sibiu . In 1940 Hockl returned to Timișoara, where he worked again as a gymnastics teacher at the Banatia from 1940–1942. After serving in the war from 1942 to 1945, Hockl was taken prisoner by the Americans in 1945.

After his release, Hockl first settled in Gmunden (1945–46) and then in Bad Ischl (1946–1948). From 1948 to 1956 he lived in the Haid camp near Linz, and from 1956 in Hörsching in Upper Austria . In 1998 Hans Wolfram Hockl died in a retirement home in Traun , to which he had withdrawn in 1991, and was then buried in Linz.

Hans Wolfram Hockl left behind an extensive literary oeuvre: volumes of poetry, novels, essays on contemporary history, contributions to the history and folklore of the Banat Swabians as well as numerous publications in Banat Swabian dialect. Hans Wolfram Hockl also appeared as a committed promoter of Danube Swabian literature.
