Hans Zirker

Hans Zirker (born March 17, 1935 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1954 to 1962, Zirker studied philosophy , Catholic theology , German and Semitic languages at the universities of Mainz and Munich . He graduated with the first state examination in 1962 and the second state examination in 1964 for the subjects of Catholic religion , German, philosophy and Hebrew . In the same year 1964 he received his doctorate in Catholic theology. From 1962 to 1971 he worked as a high school teacher, from 1971 to 1974 as head of Catholic religious instruction at the Institute for Teacher Training in Mainz, until he was offered a professorship at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland , Dept. Neuss, where until 1980 he taught as a professor for Catholic theology and its didactics . From 1980 to 1993 he was university professor for Catholic theology with a focus on fundamental theology at the University of Duisburg , then until his retirement in 2000 at the University of Essen .

  • Prerequisites for credibility and mutual understanding of personal faith and institutional religion, especially with a view to the social foundations of faith in religious or church communities and socially pluralistic societies
  • The relationship between Christianity and Islam
    • in historical terms: Islam as a piece of the Judeo-Christian history of impact, especially the history of Christian dogma ; mutual perceptions and patterns of judgment in the past and present
    • in hermeneutical terms: prerequisites for understanding when talking about God and man (world, history, individual life)
    • in social terms: places and forms of conflict between religion and modern society (under the conditions of secularization , social plurality and a democratic state); Manifestations and patterns of justification of fundamentalism .
