Hans von Weech

Friedrich Georg Hans von Weech (born November 7, 1890 in Klosterlausnitz , † July 11, 1957 in Berlin ) was a German officer . He was Major General of the Wehrmacht and Chief Inspector of the German People's Police in the Soviet Occupation Zone (SBZ) and in the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

Life

Hans was the son of the factory director Paul von Weech (* 1858) and his wife Therese Magda, née Schumacher. With the entry as a cadet in the Rifle (Fusilier) Regiment "Prince George" no. 108 of the Saxon army in April 1904, he began his military career. He became a professional officer and took part in the First World War as a platoon and company commander and intelligence officer.

He was released from military service as a captain in 1919 and worked as a commercial clerk. In February 1934 he became an officer in the Reichswehr , joined the Air Force in October 1935 and was active in building up the German air intelligence force until 1939. During the Second World War he was news leader in various Luftgau Kommandos from 1940 to 1945, most recently from January 16, 1945 at Luftgaukommando VIII . On August 1, 1943, he was promoted to major general. At the end of the war on May 8, 1945, he was taken prisoner by the Soviets .

Weech was one of the five generals of the former Wehrmacht who were released by the Soviets into the Soviet Zone in September 1948 with "Aktion 5 + 100" and who were employed in the German Interior Administration (DVDI) and in the main border police / readiness department ( HA GP / B) were used. On September 18, 1948, he was given the general rank of chief inspector and appointed head of the director's service of the HA GP / B of the DVdI. From September 15 to October 15, 1949 he was deputy head of the administration for training (VfS) and head of the general department . After the founding of the GDR, the Ministry of the Interior was formed, the VfS was renamed Main Administration Training (HVA) on October 15, 1949 , and Weech was the deputy head of the HVA and head of the directorate / supply department. He held this position until September 30, 1951. Weech was released from the police force and not taken over into the barracked people's police (KVP) or the National People's Army (NVA).

Hans von Weech was married and the father of two daughters. He died at the age of 66.
