Hansjürgen Staudinger

Hansjürgen Staudinger (born November 18, 1914 in Zurich ; † January 6, 1990 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German biochemist and university professor .

Life

After completing his school career, Staudinger studied chemistry at the Universities of Königsberg , Göttingen , Munich and Freiburg . In Freiburg doctorate Staudinger with the 1940 published dissertation About Halogenated derivatives of rubber hydrocarbon Dr. rer nat.

During the Second World War , Staudinger headed the chemical department under Franz Büchner at the Freiburg Institute for Aviation Medical Pathology of the Reich Aviation Ministry from 1941 . At that time, his main focus was on refrigeration research. Staudinger took part in the conference on medical issues in distress at sea and winter death on October 26th and 27th, 1942, where a lecture was also given on the "attempts at hypothermia" in the Dachau concentration camp . He completed his habilitation in Freiburg with the work on natural glycogens published in February 1946 . He also completed preclinical medical studies in Freiburg .

After the end of the war, Staudinger was a senior chemist at Asta-Werke AG in Brackwede . From 1948 Staudinger headed the central laboratory at the Mannheim City Hospitals as chief physician. In addition, he was a private lecturer at the University of Heidelberg and was appointed adjunct professor there in 1955. In 1959 Staudinger moved to the University of Giessen as a full professor of physiological chemistry, where he also headed the Physiological-Chemical Institute as director. Staudinger made a particular contribution to research into clinical chemistry.
