Hanspeter Oschwald

Hanspeter Oschwald (born February 12, 1943 in Waldkirch im Breisgau; † June 27, 2015 ) was a German journalist and non-fiction author. He was best known for his many years of work as a correspondent for dpa in Italy and France as well as Focus foreign director and most recently from 2001 to 2008 as head of the Burda journalism school in Offenburg.

Life

After completing an internship at the Catholic daily newspaper Deutsches Volksblatt, Schwabenverlag, Stuttgart, Oschwald took over the press and advertising work for the Catholic International Building Order, Worms. After that he was dpa editor in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Hamburg for almost 23 years as well as dpa foreign correspondent for six years in Rome and over eight years in Paris. After returning to Germany in 1988, first head of foreign policy, Die Welt in Bonn, then for eight years foreign head of Focus in Munich.

From 2001 until his retirement in 2008, he headed the Burda Journalism School he initiated in Offenburg. In 2005 he took on a teaching position at the France Center of the University of Freiburg on the subjects of the self-image of journalists, research and press law in Germany and France. He also produced several TV documentaries on church issues.

Oschwald lived in Zell am Harmersbach in the Ortenau district on the western edge of the Black Forest. He also had a second home in Rome.
