Harald Betke

Harald Betke (born March 13, 1945 in Babelsberg ) is a former football player in the highest GDR football league , who played there for 1. FC Union Berlin . With him he won the GDR Cup in 1968 . He is also a multiple junior national player.

Athletic career

Betke started playing football at the BSG Rotation Babelsberg when she was nine years old . Until his departure, he took part in all the changes in Potsdam-Babelsberg football via SC Potsdam to BSG Motor Babelsberg . Between 1962 and 1963 he was on the junior national team five times and completed an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic after graduating from school. Shortly after the spin-off to BSG Motor, Betke left the team in February 1966 in which he had last played in the second-rate GDR league . He joined the league competitor 1. FC Union Berlin , with whom he rose to the GDR league at the end of the season. The 1.71 m tall midfielder played his first competitive game for Berlin on March 13, 1966, the 20th GDR league matchday, at ASG Vorwärts Neubrandenburg (2: 3). In the following season Betke had finally played his way into the Unioner's regular formation with 25 out of 26 possible point games, and his good performances helped him to two appearances in the junior national team in June 1967. After the rise in 1966, Betke was able to celebrate the greatest success of his football career two years later. On June 9, 1968, he was with the Union team in the final of the GDR soccer cup , which the Berliners surprisingly won 2-1 over the GDR champions FC Carl Zeiss Jena .

In November 1970 Betke was drafted into the military for 18 months and played during this time with the game association Vorwärts / Motor Teltow in the third-rate district league Potsdam . In the summer of 1972 he returned to Union Berlin and played his last season for Berlin until 1973. On May 19, 1973, the 21st league match day, FC Karl-Marx-Stadt - 1. FC Union Berlin (1-0) stood for the last time in the ranks of the Unioners. During his seven years at 1. FC Union, he had 138 competitive games, 91 of them in the major league.

After retiring from high-performance sport at the age of 28, he played for one season between 1973 and 1976 at the Berlin company sports associations EAB Lichtenberg 47 , NARVA Berlin and again at EAB Lichtenberg in the GDR league. Afterwards he worked as a trainer in the district training center Berlin-Mitte, was a viewing teacher for the GDR sports association DTSB and a trainer at Rotation Berlin and Fortuna Biesdorf. Most recently he trained the 2nd E-youth of the Köpenicker SC and also played in the over-60 team of Lichtenberg 47 .
