Harald Dreßing

Harald Raimund Dreßing (born July 24, 1957 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German forensic psychiatrist .

Life

Dreßing studied medicine at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Since 1993 he has headed the forensic psychiatry department at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim . In 2005 he was appointed adjunct professor at Heidelberg University . Dreßing works as an expert in criminal, social and civil proceedings nationwide. As network coordinator, he heads the research project “Sexual abuse of minors by Catholic priests, deacons and male religious in the area of ​​the German Bishops' Conference” ( MHG study ) together with Professors Dieter Dölling , Andreas Kruse , Britta Bannenberg , Hans-Joachim Salize , Dieter Hermann and Eric Schmitt The final report of the study was presented on September 25, 2018 at a press conference in Fulda. In an essay published in September 2019, Dreßing proposed the establishment of a truth commission to deal with the abuse scandal. Further research focuses are the topics of stalking , post-traumatic stress disorders and amok as well as the risk assessment of amok. Dreßing also deals with the topic of media stigmatization of the mentally ill and has carried out an investigation into the reporting in the print media after the crash of the Germanwings machine. Dreßing, together with Elmar Habermeyer, is the publisher of the manual “Psychiatric Assessment”. In 2019 he was appointed by the Federal Minister for Labor and Social Affairs to the Medical Advisory Board for Care Medicine.
