Falckenberg Collection

The collection Falkenberg is one of the lawyers and entrepreneurs Harald Falkenberg (* 1943) in Hamburg gathered collection of works of art of modern and contemporary art . The private collection is counted among the "200 best in the world" by the international trade journal Artnews . It has been part of the Deichtorhallen Hamburg since 2011 .

scope

The collection comprises 1,900 works by international avant-garde artists , including groups of works by the Viennese Actionists and Martin Kippenberger , but also large installations by Jonathan Meese and Thomas Hirschhorn . Further works u. a. by Werner Büttner , William Copley , Albert and Markus Oehlen , Ralf Ziervogel , Daniel Richter , CO Paeffgen , Wolf Pehlke , Richard Prince , Tom Wesselmann , Hanne Darboven , Jonas Burgert . Falckenberg was awarded the Art Cologne Prize for his collection in 2009 .

Phoenix factory building at Wilstorfer Strasse 71, Gate 2

Since 2001 the Falckenberg Collection has been located in a former factory hall of the Phoenix-Werke at Wilstorfer Straße 71, Gate 2, in Hamburg-Harburg . The collection is open to the public by prior arrangement. The Phoenix Art cultural foundation, jointly founded by Harald Falckenberg and Phoenix AG , will present the collection and temporary exhibitions with international art collections. The total area was initially 4,000 m² (2,300 m² for temporary exhibitions, 1,700 m² for the viewing depot). Since 2008 around 6200 m² on 5 floors are available, which are accessed in the center by a cascade-like staircase. The complete redesign, which also offers more space for the large installations, was carried out by the Berlin architect Roger Bundschuh .

Since January 2011, the Phoenixhalle in Hamburg-Harburg has been part of Deichtorhallen Hamburg GmbH and is operated by the latter under the name “Deichtorhallen Hamburg - Falckenberg Collection”. Under the direction of the artistic director Dirk Luckow , the previous exhibition concept will be continued and new aspects will be added.
