The Harald Jarl is a former Norwegian mail ship that was in service on the Hurtigruten on the coast of Norway from June 23, 1960 to October 10, 2001 . From 2003 to 2009 she was used as a cruise ship by Elegant Cruise Line under the name Andrea , and since 2013 she has been serving as Serenissima for Premier Cruises.

The ship was built in 1960 on Trondheim Mekaniske Verksted A / S in Trondheim under construction number 244, making it the first regular Hurtigruten ship to be built in Norway since 1942. The Harald Jarl was during her Hurtigruten time of two shipping companies bereedert : in 1960 and 1985 by the Nordenfjeldske Damskipsselskap (NFDS) in Trondheim, from 1985 until leaving Hurtigruten in 2001 by the Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap (TFDS) in Tromsø . At the end of 2001 the ship was sold to the shipping company Elegant Cruise Line. From 2002 it went under the name Andrea ; Home port was Monrovia in Liberia . After some major renovations in 2002 and 2003 at shipyards in Sweden and Finland , the Andrea was mainly used as a cruise ship in the Mediterranean and Antarctica . 2009 Elegant cruise line ceased operation and the ship was in Split , Croatia launched . At an auction in February 2012, the ship was acquired by the newly founded company Premier Cruises, based in Mariehamn , Finland. Premier Cruises had the ship renovated in Split and has been using it again as a cruise ship since April 2013 under the flag of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with its home port of Kingstown . The ship has been named Serenissima since 2013 .
Technology and equipment
The ship is 87.41 meters long, 13.29 meters wide and has a draft of 4.62 meters; it was 2632 GT and is now measured at 2,549 GT. With the main engine output of 2538 kW, the ship reaches a top speed of 18.5 knots . It was approved for Hurtigruten's liner service for 600 passengers on 7 decks and initially had 225 and later 169 beds in the cabins. As the cruise ship Serenissima , it only carries 96 passengers.
Incidents
On May 20, 2013, the Serenissima ran aground off the coast of Scotland. People were not injured in this incident. On May 21, the ship was towed into Oban Bay harbor, where it was examined for damage. The hull of the ship remained undamaged, so that it was able to continue its journey shortly afterwards.
