Harald Stenvaag (born March 5, 1953 in Ålesund ) is a former Norwegian sports shooter .
successes
Harald Stenvaag took part in the Olympic Games six times . In 1984 he took seventh place with the air rifle in Los Angeles , while he reached 14th place in three-position combat with the small-bore rifle and 17th place in the prone position. In 1988 in Seoul he improved to fifth with the air rifle and seventh with the small bore in three-position combat. Four years later , however, he did not get past 18th place with an air rifle in Barcelona . With the small caliber he finished fifth in the three-position battle, while in the prone position he even took second place with 701.4 points and thus won the silver medal behind Lee Eun-chul and ahead of Stevan Pletikosić . In the following games, he only appeared in the small-bore disciplines and completed them in Atlanta in 1996 in 41st place in the three-position fight and 30th place in the prone position. At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney Stenvaag qualified with 1175 points in the three-position battle for the final, in which he scored another 93.6 points. With a total of 1268.6 points, he won the bronze medal behind Rajmond Debevec and Juha Hirvi . In the horizontal position he took 13th place. He finished the 2004 games in Athens in a three-position battle in 30th place and eleventh in the prone position.
Stenvaag won a total of 21 medals at world championships between 1981 and 2002. He became world champion eight times: In 1982 he secured the title in Caracas in the individual competition in the three-position fight with the standard rifle as well as with the air rifle team. The next title win followed in 1986 in Suhl with the free rifle in a standing position with the team. In 1990 in Moscow he won the gold medal in both the individual and team competition with the free rifle in the prone position. The following year in Stavanger he achieved such success in individual and team competitions with the air rifle. Stenvaag won his eighth and last world championship title in Lahti in 2002 with the small- bore team in the prone position . His other medal wins include five silver and eight bronze medals. In addition, he was five times European champion in different individual disciplines.
His wife Anne Grethe Jeppesen also took part in the Olympic Games in sport shooting in 1984. The couple has one child.
