Harald Wolf (born March 7, 1955 in Berlin ) is a German neurobiologist and university professor.

Life

Harald Wolf studied biology and chemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt . From 1975 to 1984 he was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and received his doctorate in 1984 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg on the subject of "Investigation of acoustic interneurons on freely moving locusts of the species Chorthippus biguttulus " .

1985 to 1987 he was a research assistant at the University of Alberta in Edmonton ( Canada ) with Keir G. Pearson. From 1987 to 1991 he worked at the biological faculty of the University of Konstanz in Werner Rathmayer's group and completed his habilitation in 1990 on the subject of "Locomotor control in insects: neuronal bases of flight and walking" .

From 1991 to 1997 he was a DFG scholarship holder in the Heisenberg program .

In 1996 he was visiting professor at the University of Zurich in Rüdiger Wehner's group .

Since 1997 he has been a full professor and head of the Institute for Neurobiology at Ulm University .

In 2009/2010 he was a “Fellow” at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin .

Research priorities

His research focuses primarily on sensorimotor processes in the locomotion , navigation and orientation of articulated animals (e.g. desert ants ). Among other things, Harald Wolf was also involved in a number of DFG projects that focused on the application of these research results to the development of walking robots .
