Harmon Clayton Killebrew (born June 29, 1936 in Payette , Idaho , † May 17, 2011 in Scottsdale , Arizona ), nicknamed " Killer " and " Hammerin 'Harmon ", was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball .
Career
As the first baseman, he played in his 22-year professional career for the Washington Senators , Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals . During that time he scored 573 home runs .
Killebrew was one of the top hitters of the 1960s, hitting at least 40 home runs per season for eight straight years. With the Minnesota Twins he reached the 1965 World Series , which they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers . In 1969 he was named Most Valuable Player of the American League . Six times he had the most home runs in the league at the end of the season, three times the most run batted in . Killebrew has been elected to the All-Star Team 11 times. In 1984 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame .
