Harold Marvin Rayner (born July 27, 1888 in Glen Ridge , † December 8, 1954 in Cortlandt ) was an American fencer , pentathlete and officer in the US Army .

Life

Harold Rayner took part in three Olympic Games : in 1912 he was eliminated in Stockholm in the quarter-finals in the singles with the foil. At the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 , he finished third with the foil team. With Henry Breckinridge , Robert Sears , Arthur Lyon and Francis Honeycutt , he received the bronze medal. He finished sixth with the Degen team. In addition, he started in the modern pentathlon and finished the competition in sixth place. In 1928 he placed fifth in Amsterdam with both the foil and epee teams.

Rayner was a graduate of the United States Military Academy . He spent his entire military career in the cavalry . He was temporarily aide-de-camp of Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Warren G. Harding , and General of the Armies John J. Pershing . In 1946 he retired with the rank of colonel .
