Robert Wilson Sears (born November 30, 1884 in Portland , † January 9, 1979 in Atlanta ) was an American fencer , pentathlete and officer in the US Army .
Life
Robert Sears took part in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp , where he took third place with the foil team. With Henry Breckinridge , Harold Rayner , Arthur Lyon and Francis Honeycutt , he received the bronze medal. He finished sixth with the Degen team. In addition, he started in the modern pentathlon and finished the competition in seventh place.
Sears was a graduate of the United States Military Academy and spent most of his military career with the Ordnance Corps . During the Second World War , at the age of 60, he commanded a regiment of the 35th Infantry Division and fought with it mainly in France. In 1946 he retired with the rank of colonel .
