Harry Entwistle

Harry Entwistle (born May 31, 1940 in Chorley , United Kingdom ) is a former Anglican bishop and since 2012 a Roman Catholic clergyman as well as emeritus professor of the staff ordinariate of Our Lady of the Southern Cross .

Life

Harry Entwistle studied at St. Chad's Theological College at the University of Durham and was ordained a priest on September 20, 1964 in the Diocese of Blackburn of the Church of England . He then served in the Fleetwood, Hardwick, Weedon, Aston Abbotts and Cubligton wards, serving as chaplain and pastor of Her Majesty's Prison Service from 1974 to 1981 and senior chaplain of Her Majesty's Prison Wansworth from 1981 to 1988 . In 1988 he emigrated to Australia and became Senior Chaplain for the Department of Corrective Services in the Diocese of Perth. After serving as archdeacon and pastor in Northam from 1992 to 1999 , he became pastor in Mount Lawley in 1999. In 2006 he joined the Traditional Anglican Communion and was ordained bishop on November 24, 2006 in St. Peter in Adelaide together with David Robarts by Archbishop John Hepworth ; Co-consecrators were Tolowa Nona SSC, Bishop of the Church of Torres Strait, Assistant Bishops Sania Townson and David Chislett, and Arthur Stanley Goldsworthy , the former Anglican Bishop of Bunbury. Entwistle was Assistant Bishop of the Archbishop of the Diocese of Australia of the Anglican Catholic Church in Australia in charge of the District of Western Australia and was also pastor in Maylands, Perth until 2012 .

Harry Entwistle has been married to Jean Barrett Polts since 1967 and has two children.

Convert to the Catholic Church

Harry Entwistle switched from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic Church . On June 15, 2012, he was ordained a Catholic priest in St. Mary's Cathedral in Perth by the Archbishop of Perth Timothy Costelloe and at the same time as Ordinarius of Pope Benedict XVI. appointed on the same day established Personal Ordinary of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. He exercised this office without episcopal ordination, since a celibacy dispensation for bishops is not permitted. He has been permitted to wear a miter , pectoral cross, and ring , and a crosier in the same way as some abbots .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 26, 2019.
